As you may be aware the church has run a toddler group in the Johnston Memorial hall for a very long time. Dilys Thomas was leader for many years and as parents arrive with their third or fourth child they often ask after her.
Toddler group is a place where carers, who may be parents, grandparents or childminders, can bring their little ones. The carer remains responsible for the children throughout the session.
The role of the volunteer involves setting out toys, welcoming new faces, offering tea or coffee and tidying up afterwards. Music sessions are very popular.
The group gives carers a chance to get out of the house into a warm relaxed environment where they can meet other people in a similar situation. It plays an important part in addressing isolation and postnatal depression. Many nationalities are represented and, unusually for toddler groups, we have several fathers bringing their offspring.
Currently the toddler group is held on three mornings a week, Monday, Wednesday and Friday, between 9.30am and 11am. Setting up starts from 8.45 and afterwards there is usually some sweeping and washing up.
Current volunteers are seeking support. Why not come along and see what happens. If you are interested and have a free morning do contact Anita Mcleod or Marion Green.
