The allotment is waking up for spring – though to be fair it has been growing cabbages, pak choi and other veg all winter. Green manure (plants that help the soil by storing nitrogen in nodules on their roots) has been cut back and cardboard put on top. We shall cover this with compost and plant directly through it saving hours of digging. Our plans for crops this year include broad beans, peas, lettuce, tomatoes, radishes, cucumbers and anything else that takes our fancy.
